Antique Wallace Grand Baroque Sterling Silver Fork
Triptych Left Panel
30x20 inches / oil on canvas
SOLD
...and the final piece in the triptych, the fork, which features daffodils and forget-me-nots. I'll be photographing all the panels together for another post, but must wait for a bright day to achieve even illumination for accurate depiction of tonal values. Oh, and don't you just love the shadows of the fork? This triptych is quite fabulous in person as the scale is so large with overall dimensions of 30x60 inches. I can imagine each panel framed on the wall for an elegant yet powerful statement.

...and here's the spoon which features forget-me-nots. As is typical for me when painting silver spoons, my reflection can be seen here with eyeglasses, wearing a green shirt and my hand up to the canvas where I'm actually painting it! This has become somewhat of a trademark with my silverware paintings. I love adding these fun little details that beckon the viewer's closer inspection. Next up...the fork.

Wallace Grand Baroque Sterling Silver Knife
Triptych Center Panel
30x20 inches / oil on canvas
SOLD
I've selected the antique version of these flatware pieces as they all feature a different flower, whereas the newly manufactured pieces are all the same less refined rose. This antique knife features the roses and buttercups. I love the soft color of the background as it has a suede like quality. Keep checking back as I'll have the spoon and fork done soon.

This is the antique version which features a different floral on each utensil, unlike the current day version which shows a less refined rose on all. Anyone who follows my work knows I always prefer the antiques!

It will be included in Sannie Terese Burén's new book about her uniquely interesting family history. Sannie is a writer, freelance journalist and owner of the B&B Aeblegaarden in Denmark. This is actually an example of both the front and back of the same spoon. Note the ribbon and bow on the back as well as the engraved "K" on the front just above the inverted trumpet flower. ...And yes, that's me by the south facing window in my studio where the snow provides a pure, cool reflected light...my favorite time of year to paint!

Always a joy to paint, this particular sterling teaspoon shows the autumn foliage outside my window as well as me leaning forward toward my easel to see the details while painting. From the Seven Flowers pattern, this charming “Little Gem” is offered on ebay auction.

Estate Sale Silver

SOLD
Available at Howard / Mandville Gallery
A painting I’ve been planning for over a year, it has finally gotten on my easel. This seemingly casual yet precisely placed arrangement brings it’s abstract qualities to the forefront, similar to my very first silver spoons painting several years ago. However, this one has a touch of whimsy with the pricetags directly from an estate sale. You can also see the engraved initials E.B. as well as W on two handles. Several spoons, a fork, large ladle and tiny ladle are featured here.

Delightful Anticipation Teacups Tea Party Antique Sterling Silver Spoons Cake Moon and Stars Pedestal Cake Plate "Let them eat cake" Show
"Delightful Anticipation"
20x16 inches / oil on panel
This painting will be available in the upcoming "Let 'em Eat Cake" exhibit at Crooked Tree Gallery. At first I thought to paint the expected subject, cake or cookies. Then I thought to paint my mischievous kitty when she tippy toed across the buffet table, navigating through the crystal and silverware to sample one of my homemade cakes. (See the bottom on my pets blog.) However, that was too sentimental as I'd never want to part with it, so I finally landed on the idea to paint some of my favorite things with the teacakes playing a supporting role. I especially enjoyed painting the antique sterling spoons featuring Orange Blossom and Bridal Rose with all their lovely reflections including my red dining room. The cakestand is an old favorite in the Moon and Stars pattern. Most of my teacups feature flowers...no big surprise to those of you who follow my work! :o)
(As usual, the blog image is quite blurry as compared to the original oil painting.)
sterling silver spoons demitasse teaspoons antique angels flowers whiting lily grande baroque watson cherub
Sterling Silver Demitasse and Teaspoons
16x12 inches / oil on panel
SOLD
This was a commissioned painting with spoons from my client's collection which included a set of demitasse spoons she'd later regretted selling. Therefore, I added them into this composition so she'd still be in possession of them. What makes this set particularly unique is the engraving on the back, "Father". In all my years of collecting I've never seen this. Also, I added the letter "C" on the Whiting Lily patterned teaspoon to personalize it for her last name. The other two patterns are Grande Baroque and the darling angel is Watson Cherub.

...and here's the completed painting: BIG Silver Spoons with "K" Engraving predominantly featuring the Lily and Orange Blossom patterns
BIG Silver Spoons with "K" Engraving
16x12 inches / oil on panel
SOLD
Century old silver spoons predominantly feature "Lily" and "Orange Blossom". While my Lily spoon has a “B” engraved, my client requested “K” for their last name; I always love these personalized details in custom paintings. There is a glare no matter how I tried to reduce the effects of the bright sunlight relfecting off the snow, plus it's a little blurry but you know me . . . I'm a patient painter but a very impatient photographer even handholding my camera . . . but you get the idea! :o) Oh, and a little postscript, that's me holding my camera and the large "Farmstand Peaches" painting in a gilt frame reflected within the bowls of the spoons.
