Large Classical Still Life Oil Painting Peonies, Pair of Wrens, Double Happiness Ginger Jar, leather bound books, pink stationery, cherry drop leaf table
Peonies in Double Happiness Jar with Two Wrens
30x24 inches / oil on canvas
SOLD
...and here's the second painting to which I'd referred in the prior post, a loose arrangement of old fashioned peonies in a Double Happiness jar symbolizing good luck. Tucked amidst the casual arrangement of antique leather books and pretty pink stationery, are two tiny little Wrens, one of which is holding a fly in it's beak. As always, the porcelain is chipped and cracked, water droplets randomly scattered, dense blossoms display a heavy burden on their stems with fallen petals, and leather books are torn and frayed...all revealing my trademark signs of age.
feathered nest blue eggs
n e s t
5x5 inches / oil on panel
SOLD
A classically painted twiggy nest with fluffs of feathers and three precious blue eggs.
I was going to number this nest but rather than count them all, I chose to search my nest category and came up with 53 paintings that included nests...so far...more to come!
Robin's Egg in Nest Amidst Wilting Pink Roses
Nest Amidst Wilting Roses
8x8 inches / oil on panel
SOLD
There’s something so intriguing about the backside of a flower...where the magic of the bloom emerges, unfurling it’s complicated and delicate splendor. Here I found that very same excitement in my roses and chose to paint their velvety petals just as they were, softly wilting and bruised as a gentle reminder of nature’s transient beauty.

Hummingbird's Nest Small Oil Painting Little Gems
Hummingbird's Nest with Blue Feathers
4x4 inches / oil on panel
Painted larger than life
SOLD
...to show the details better, these tiny Hummingbird nests are actually made of the teeniest, tiniest things from the garden, such as spider webs, moss and lichen and as one client has observed, even a bit of pet fur. I'm sure one day I'll attempt to paint this nest lifesized, which will mean considerably smaller than this painting! I also paint nests larger than life such as 24x24 inches if you're interested in commissioning a uniquely beautiful oil painting. jeanneillenye@sbcglobal.net

Nest with Feather & Broken Blue Egg
6x6 inches / oil on panel

What signifies Spring more than anything? A delicate little bird's nest of course. Featured here in a traditional oil painting reminiscent of the old masters' classical style, is a sweet little nest filled with soft blue eggs, a feather gently poised alongside and a single egg lays broken upon the polished table.Nature's Melodies Nest with Blue Eggs & Music Featured in the Perez Gallery Spring Show

Abundance classical old world Dutch master style original oil painting by jeanne illenye
Abundance
24x20 inches / oil on canvas
NFS
It was only a few brief years ago that I was intensely studying the methods of the Dutch masters, as exhibited here in this painting of my own imagination. These larger, complex compositions executed with intense detail took months to complete. I still adore these paintings not only for their beauty, but also because I dedicated so much of my life to each one, as opposed to my "Little Gems" for example, which at most take a few days to complete so I only seem to visit with them very briefly. However, I truly grew with these elaborate paintings which required such intense visualization and heavy reliance upon memory of my subjects, that I feel they are a part of me . . . or I am a part of them. I didn't actually have the luxury of a still life in front of me at that time so my tutorials were harder learned. Yet those self taught lessons have sunk in deeply as a result and everything I've done subsequently contains this underlying foundation. These paintings are where I really strove to hone my technical skills. It all began when I fell in love with a particular masterpiece (will show at future post) and naively mentioned to a friend how I wondered if I could actually paint like that. Her surprisingly off-handed response, "Sure you can," is what prompted the challenge, and it was the best step I could've taken with my art. Now, as I'm changing direction, or more accurately, as my sensitivities are piqued in other aspects and a directional change is slowly becoming more evident in the newest work on my easels, I'm turning a glimpse backward to see my progress. The joy of having a career like this is that it will forever entertain my eyes, my hand, my mind and my heart as I strive to improve my work while serving as a vessel to interpret and capture nature's transient beauty.

feathers and egg botanical oil painting blue Robin's egg wild Turkey feathers
Wild Turkey Feathers & Robin's Egg
6x6 inches / oil on panel
SOLD
Reminiscent of classical botanicals, this arrangement of what I believe are two beautiful Turkey feathers and a Robin’s egg, make for a striking composition. The creamy white feather with tints of gold is silky and the brown feather is downy soft. Surprisingly, we didn’t see the usual flocks of turkeys this past season. We do always enjoy their antics as they strut and cluck up the driveway and move in waves all around the property sampling my garden and cleaning up under the bird feeders. Perhaps they’ll grace us with their presence next year....

Lifesized Nest in Blue Foley Teacup
"Who says teacups are just for tea?"
6x6 inches / oil on panel
SOLD
This charming Little Gem features a small nest from my collection which is painted lifesize and tucked into a beautiful aqua blue Foley teacup. I've been planning for quite some time to paint nests in new arrangements so here's my first in that direction. Actually, I've been painting bird's nests for well over a decade as some of you may have seen in my large, classical still lifes. It was four years ago that I introduced my first small, solitary nest on ebay which was met with such a wonderful response that I've been creating these paintings ever since.
...and here's a little touch of a classical style oil painting again with roses, fruit and bird's nest
Classical Still Life
8x10 inches / oil on canvas
SOLD
...and here's a little touch of a classical oil painting again with English roses, bird's nest with eggs and feathers, raspberries, grapes and curled leaves reflected on a highly polished table. While this particular painting is relatively small at 8x10 inches, I'd love to paint it again larger, perhaps in a 16x20 inch size. If you're interested in commissioning a gorgeous classical oil painting kindly email me at jeanneillenye@sbcglobal.net

Looking ahead in 2011
Resolutions 2011
Here's an example of some past work. This year I'll be moving in a lighter, brighter direction with the fruition of lots of fresh ideas that have been waiting in the wings while fulfilling commissioned orders in recent years. Rather than tip my hand, I'll just invite you to check back periodically to see what's on my easel. I'll be adding a new chapter on my website, as well. Please join me as I continue my artistic journey . . .
Capturing Nature's Transient Beauty
nest blue eggs downy soft feathers oil painting 10x8 in.
single nest #23
10x8 inches / oil on canvas panel
SOLD
While this is nest #23 in my "Little Gems" series, it is not the 23rd time I've painted a nest. For many years I'd included nests and birds in my larger still life paintings, some of which can be seen here on this blog (click link on header). I have numerous paintings in my mind's eye that have been begging to become a reality, many of which include nests, so keep checking this year for a new twist on the presentation of these exquisitely detailed marvels of nature.
