English Roses in Spode Teacup

Thoughts of a leisurely afternoon come to mind with an antique embroidered, lace edged cloth, pearls cascading over a leather bound book, and fresh from the garden with dewdrops and honeybee are soft English roses gently tucked into a Spode Blue Italian teacup.

Baseball Well Played at 60 oil painting sports theme
Baseball Well Played at 60
5x5 inches / oil on panel
SOLD
It’s been a couple of years since I’d painted a baseball, so it was particularly delightful to revisit this subject. This painting was personalized with the addition of “60” no doubt commemorating a very special day!
Fulfilling my heart's desire with new, fresher, more mature still life oil paintings on the horizon
For many years I've painted from memory, something I've not liked to share too much as many folks don't quite understand what that means. It's simply been a vision in my mind's eye that I quickly wash onto canvas or panel, continuing to build refinement while sometimes referring to subjects in life or images for final detailing. However, as my inner voice has been calling me toward a new direction more representational of my true spirit, I've been impatient to fulfill this urge. Therefore, in the past two or three years as my garden shares it's bounty, I've been capturing nature's transient beauty in digital photographs to be referenced at a future date as time permits. In the midst of a photo shoot when creativity abounds, my desk becomes a cluttered mess of freshly cut garden blossoms, an array of vessels and other miscellaneous props. My photo shoots take a minimum of several hours as every nuance is adjusted frame by frame resulting in hundreds if not thousands of photos from which only a few will be selected as reference for oil paintings. These spectacular images are being reserved for larger, more refined paintings with a new freshness -- more mature work than you've seen from me in the past. Three of these new works will be included in the prestigious American Society of Traditional Artists National Museum Exhibit. These newest oil paintings are my true heart's desire.
Figs & Antique Wooden Blocks "Luca is Love Times Three" oil painting
"Luca is Love Times Three"
12x9 inches / oil on panel
SOLD
Here is my second commissioned painting of this subject. from another young couple who have been blessed with a precious baby boy! They planted a fig tree together outside their door when they first met, and now with their first child named Luca, requested a painting of blocks and three little figs which I designed, “Luca is Love Times Three”. You may recall that last year I’d received a commission for a painting of a single fig and wooden blocks which carried a lot of symbolism for that first couple as well, since their baby boy named Aaron, was knicknamed “Fig” thus my painting with a play on words, “Aaron, We Love You”.
Grammy Nancy's Daffodils and Jam silver spoon jelly jar morning sun oil painting
Grammy Nancy's Daffodils and Jam
10x8 inches / oil on canvas
SOLD
Nancy commissioned this painting but I don’t know if she’s “Grammy Nancy” or if she’s recalling fond memories of her grandmother. Also, the Daffodil silver spoon has been a recurring theme in recently commissioned paintings, perhaps as a special tribute to Grammy’s garden . . . .
white dress satin chiffon white peony baby blue satin sash 10x8 inches cocktail dress
White Dress with Peony
10x8 inches oil on panel
SOLD
Something completely different for me, a white chiffon dress with the softest hint of baby blue in the satin sash, all accentuated with a butter yellow and white peony. The crisp black and white theme is refreshing and presents this gossamer dress with an ethereal quality. If you have a wedding gown, christening dress, baby bonnet that or perhaps a special pair of lace gloves you would like interpreted as a custom oil painting, I'd be delighted to create a gorgeous memento especially for you! email jeanneillenye@sbcglobal.net

Resolutions 2011
Here's an example of some past work. This year I'll be moving in a lighter, brighter direction with the fruition of lots of fresh ideas that have been waiting in the wings while fulfilling commissioned orders in recent years. Rather than tip my hand, I'll just invite you to check back periodically to see what's on my easel. I'll be adding a new chapter on my website, as well. Please join me as I continue my artistic journey . . .

My painting process - Q&A on painting - On painting in zen and other good stuff
Question & Answer
So often over the years I've received questions pertaining to my painting process, whether it be technically, emotionally or even spiritually. While I've attempted to answer in my sidebar commentaries, folks can easily miss it with so much to read. Therefore, I'll periodically post some responses here in my blog section which you can find quickly in the search bar on the left.
So keep those questions coming as I love hearing from you!
On Painting in Zen
"For me it most noticeably occurred about 15 years ago with the creation of the most challenging paintings of my life, my huge, elaborate florals. The process was so intense and required so much mental energy it was peculiarly more work than studying differential equations or chemistry. Those paintings took months to complete as I taught myself how to grow to a new level. What is that Zen feeling for me? Where time is incalculable...observation and skill merge into a spiritual experience. Hurdles are long forgotten and I seem to be in a comfortable plateau in terms of color mixing, composition, balance, etc. The tea kettle boils dry...the promise of only a few minutes at my easel soon brings the realization six hours later that it's 3AM...the insatiable desire to keep recording ideas on panels that stack up by the dozens in my studio before I can find time to get back to them...the meditative state that occurs every time I sit at my easel...I call it auto pilot...the ability to tune out...the familiarity of spending so much solitary time in deep concentration. Only the jarring sound of a phone or the undeniable sweetness of birdsong or fluttering wings splashing in the birdbath can pull me away momentarily from my easel...before my work once again beckons. It's a spiritual experience which I hope my work someday lives up to. Right now I'd say the richness of the process actually exceeds the results...but I'm working on that...." Jeanne Illenye (c) 2010
Forget-me-nots brooch, vintage lace, strand of pearls
Forget-me-nots, vintage lace and strand of pearls
4x4 inches / oil on panel
This "Little Gem" oil painting is small in stature but big on impact. From my collection, this handpainted forget-me-not brooch is a favorite, particularly placed amidst a string of pearls and vintage lace with tatted edges. With such delicacy in creating these gems, it required a particularly delicate touch of the brush to interpret them in this oil painting.
annabelle hydrangeas white picket fence rose arbor home sweet home -- my little slice of paradise as the inspiration for my work - painting in zen
As I've been working hard to fulfill all the orders for pet portraits as a result of my recently concluded Summer Sale, and therefore have not produced many still life paintings, I thought it would be nice to keep in touch by sharing a little something special with you . . . a peek into my private world . . . my little slice of paradise for all you garden lovers out there! Hope you enjoy!

Fig, fruit, vintage A B C blocks, ewe, contemporary realism, "Aaron, We Love You"
"Aaron, We Love You"
10x8 inches / oil on panel
SOLD
This charming painting was commissioned by a lovely couple who just had a baby boy named Aaron, knicknamed "Fig". The only guidelines were to mimic the concept of my "Three Little Figs" paintng but with one piece of fruit, some green/brown. The image evolved in my imagination almost immediately using blocks. The idea to create a painting of children's blocks or other toys would make a great baby shower gift, too! If you would like to commission an original oil painting please contact me at jeanneillenye@sbcglobal.net
I'd be delighted to hear from you!
cozy knits realism - little gems oil painting by jeanne illenye
Challenged by this month’s group subject of striped socks, I finally settled on my third idea which is presented here. Being that I love detail in both my paintings and needlework, I seemed to be increasingly intrigued by every photo and zoomed closer each time. Presenting my subjects in warm shades of oatmeal (rather than the actual bright red & white of the socks) underscored the cozy ambience. Little did I know at the onset that painting a pile of knitted items with a degree of accuracy was nearly as time consuming as actually knitting them!

A sneak peak of paintings coming in December . . .
As I tippy-toed around my studio, I realized it might be fun for you to see my multi-tasking efforts. With so many paintings in progress at any given moment it can sometimes become rather intense, particularly when added to these piles are several more including much larger commissioned paintings. Displayed here are just SOME of my Little Gems paintings that are underway and planned for completion in December. Keep a lookout! . . . and if you see some that peak your interest and wish to purchase in advance or wish to see clearer while still in progress, just let me know!
