orange burst classical fruit oil painting cherries grapes peeled orange strawberries
Orange Burst
14x18 inches / oil on canvas
SOLD
A classical beauty, this orange painting was one of my first which inspired many interpretations including "Orange Glow" which is a more contemporary version. With it's explosion of orange segments, dripping juice and seeds, "Orange Burst" is an abundant composition partially inspired by the American Master, William John McCloskey. Peeled oranges have always been such a popular subject with my clientele and I must admit it's my favorite fruit subject to paint.

overturned cherry pint old world classical oil painting
Overturned Cherry Pint
10x8 inches / oil on canvas
SOLD
An older classical painting of mine, which I just came upon and realized I'd not posted, is an example of old world style featuring an overturned pint of cherries on a reflective table surface. The subject, composition, depth of color and interplay of shadows pay homage to the paintings of William J. McCloskey (1859-1941) whose work I admire.

Just going through some old photos to backup on yet another hard drive, my third now, as I have tens of thousands of files, most of which are pics, and came across two paintings I'd created quite a few years ago which I thought would be nice to share with you, the second to be posted tomorrow. So many of my paintings never even get posted to my blog with my schedule, but if this one is already here, I think it's beauty and appealing subject matter warrant being presented again. I do wish I'd taken a photo of the painting when it was completed, but there just wasn't enough time as the client was getting impatient for it, so this is actually prior to completion. This was also painted prior to digital cameras so the details are quite a bit blurry. Just looking at my painted rosebuds, I could nearly feel their rounded shape, hard packed with petals, the outermost barely beginning to peel open. I'd subsequently worked those Bluebirds even more to the point where I could almost reach out and grasp them and hear their feathers flutter!

Once again harkening back to an old world classical style oil painting, featured here are luscious oranges that appear to have burst forth in an artistic arrangement with other fruit on a rustic ledge. All are accentuated by reflective puddles of dripping juice.
Pears on Rustic Ledge

Glistening Fruit in Spode Bowl

SOLD
This chipped and cracked Spode Blue Italian bowl sets the stage for a luscious painting, rich with glistening cherries, blushing bruised pears and a cascade of ripening red grapes set against a torn, antique floral tapestry. You can see that the inspiration for this was from an older painting of mine entitled "American Goldfinches" which is shown in the following post.

"Sustenance"
16x20 inches oil on canvas
This beautifully serene painting depicts a sparse meal of nuts, fruit and wine on a frayed and torn, velvet cloth. It's humble setting bespoke the thought of grateful thanksgiving hence the title "Sustenance".

Orange Glow

Smaller than my earlier versions of this subject and minus the cherries, this cropped composition still retains a wonderful drama with the fruit painted lifesize and a thin film of reflected light hovering above, hence the title.

Cherries in Cantonware Bowl
6x6 inches / oil on panel
SOLD
Bright red cherries cascading over the edge of an antique Cantonware bowl showing a slight chip at the bottom, with leaves torn and bruised, reveal my trademark signs of age as a nod to Nature's transient beauty. A perennial favorite, this color scheme is featured on page 5 of my blue & white porcelain section on my website. Figs & Antique Wooden Blocks "Luca is Love Times Three" oil painting
"Luca is Love Times Three"
12x9 inches / oil on panel
SOLD
Here is my second commissioned painting of this subject. from another young couple who have been blessed with a precious baby boy! They planted a fig tree together outside their door when they first met, and now with their first child named Luca, requested a painting of blocks and three little figs which I designed, “Luca is Love Times Three”. You may recall that last year I’d received a commission for a painting of a single fig and wooden blocks which carried a lot of symbolism for that first couple as well, since their baby boy named Aaron, was knicknamed “Fig” thus my painting with a play on words, “Aaron, We Love You”.
