This baseball has been played with well . . . and with it, many a game was well played! For most of us, baseball was a friendly, all inclusive game where every kid in the neighborhood gathered on the curb to pick teams. Our claim to fame was a single leftover bat from a boy’s Little League, a couple of mitts that we shared and used for second base in the middle of the street, and one worn out baseball. What made the game particularly interesting was the condition of the ball. It had been through a lot including being retrieved countless times by the skinniest boy who slinked down the swampy sewer to save the game in a rousing cheer of applause! We all recall the image of watching that wobbly pitch approaching, then hearing the ever familiar “twap, twap, twap” as it spun past with it’s “wing” hanging out and flapping in the breeze! Absolutely nothing could deter us in our quest . . . for a game well played!

Sweet little painting Jeanne! The "feel" of the old ball and the memories wrapped into each scuff mark, all emanate from this image. Well done.

What a wonderful painting! I spent six hours at baseball games with my son last night. And your painting really caught my eye!

Thank you so much! Many people have painted baseballs over the years, myself included, but there's just something particularly special about a baseball that shows evidence of countless happy hours!! Jeanne
