MY STUDIO

Today we're all posting images of our studios for you to visit...and here's mine!

It's a substantial space, one corner shown here, with both Southern and Western exposures which provide not only marvellous light through several windows, but also a high, panoramic view of my front garden. On occasion if early enough in the morning, I have caught several deer nibbling my sweet peas and hollyhocks over the picket fence as well as sniffing out the cats from under the 40 foot Blue Spruces which provide a haven for countless birds and other wildlife. Springtime permits sweet fragrances from blossoming trees and the tender serenades of birdsong wafting in on gentle breezes, which by Summertime, can become a bit gusty with approaching storms. Currently, Winter not only affords amazing sunsets through defoliated trees, but also magnificent views of the snow covered landscape. Stepping into my studio is always inspirational....

You must be the neatest artest in the DP.

Thank you, Delilah! I haven't checked the other artist's studios yet, but am looking forward to seeing them! I didn't even have time to really clean up much; as you can see I have lots of paintings in progress at any given moment. Sometimes my studio gets like an obstacle course and even the cats have to tippy-toe to get through the maze. Guess this week it's better than I thought...?

What a beautiful studio Jeanne. I have the advantage now via today's tour to determine how best to set up my studio when the house is finished. Your's is so warm and welcoming.

Thank you so much, Jacqui! It's been such fun touring everyone's studios today! It is so interesting to see how fellow artists prioritize and organize their creative space. I have always dreamt of having a huge studio in a barn with exposed beams, hardwood floors and oriental rugs, room to spread out with several easels and have a private entrance for patrons...but alas, only dreams are free! :)

What a beautiful studio Jeanne! - It suits you and your work so well! (and gets my brain thinking about what to do next with mine!!) Thanks for sharing your work-space!

Thank you, Roxanne! It took me a long time to even get organized. In fact, before we got our house, when I was single and living in an apt. in NJ I painted small works on my kitchen table, and for larger works I propped them against the wall and sat right on the floor. (I was alot younger then.) Problem was that my playful kittens would see the brush move and poke a paw back at me from the underside of the stretched canvas! As you know, it does take time to come up with the right plan and the right space for the current work, doesn't it?

This looks like a great space to create! Very warm and your description of the outside makes it all the more beautiful. You are doing beautiful painting here as well!

Jeanne, your studio is a most wonderful of spaces.
The feeling of warmth is evident as it is reflected back into your work.

Thank you, Brad! While I don't paint wildlife or landscapes, it certainly is important to have that restful view outside my windows...even if it's just our little slice of heaven in suburbia.

Thank you, Gerald! Several people have commented on the warmth of my studio, which I truly appreciate. I suppose my entire home eminates that mood / color scheme. Our surroundings are so important and a reflection of ourselves, our thoughts and ultimately filtering into our paintings, as you so kindly mentioned.

Now I've seen everything! Your studio has to be the cleanest, safest place to paint, and I thought I was a clean painter! I could not sit on those wonderful comfy looking chairs and paint to save my life without getting some splashes of color on them. Especially with kitties helping out with the paint jobs. I love your still lifes and flowers, Jeanne. You appear to be getting better and better and are an inspiration to me with my still lifes. Thank you so much for sharing studio and paintings with us all and me especially. Keep up the great work.
Now I will have to teach Kitts how to help me paint as well! Happy Holidays...

Thank you, Thaw! I have to reciprocate the compliment on both your studio and your florals! Painting neatly does become more challenging while working on the very large canvases, as I'm sure you know. It is my hope to stretch into a larger format occasionally as I've had several commissions to do them "bigger than life"...then let's see how my studio looks! :O
