HUMMINGBIRD'S TINY NEST

Only about two inches in diameter, this hummingbird’s nest, painted lifesize, sits securely on a single branch. Nests in general are fascinating, however, a hummingbird’s nest seems to be almost miraculous knowing how tiny these birds are. Here can be seen mother’s teal feathers amongst torn dried leaves and what appear to be fine hairs and grasses. How they raise a brood on the tip of a leaf in the garden or on a single little branch as was done here, is quite remarkable to contemplate.

Hey Jeanne,
Nice of you to have stopped into my blog and left nice comments about my latest piece, very flattering coming from someone whos work I admire. I'm glad I clicked over here to see what you're up to, the blue feather on this birds nest painting is worth the opening bid price alone, your brush work is phenominal as usual. you're one of those painters who make it look fun and easy..a true sign of a hard working pro. OK, enough stroking of the ego, back to the easel.
All my best to you,
Todd
