"Through my paintings I hope to communicate a personal enthusiasm and respect for the natural world, thus encourage in others an active stewardship of same." -- JEANNE ILLENYE

NEW DIRECTIONS FOR 2010

Refining FOCUS
Enhancing TECHNIQUE
Deliberating PURPOSE

As I continue to complete many paintings begun in 2009 which will be offered in the first quarter 2010, you will also begin to see the emergence of new characteristics in my work. Look for a more refined focus which will include simplified, more emphatic still life compositions as well as a more expansive portfolio of floral botanical and garden paintings. All will reveal a new light with specific focus on the following series:

* nothin’ but pink series floral botanicals
* silver series still lifes of antique sterling silver
* treading softly series garden images

Just an unrelated yet humorous note. Tonight is the eve of my birthday . . . and as my husband's birthday is in two weeks, we were discussing numbers. When I mentioned that he would be 55 he was shocked and announced that he was only 53 . . . I retorted with a comment about it being impossible as I was 53 . . . as of tomorrow that is. I'd only realized two days ago that I'd totally missed 52 since I was thinking all along for most of the year that I was already 53. Therefore, I was relishing the last few hours of being 52 . . . well, so I thought! A little too tired after much Christmas champagne punch yesterday to do the basic math, my parents became involved and the question of their anniversary even came up! Long story short . . . I'm only 51 today (which sounds so young now after thinking all year I was 53) and tomorrow 52!!!! How can anyone make such an error!?!? Have I been just a little too busy these past few years?? Now where's that birthday cake painting I started on my big 5-0 . . . maybe I'll pull that out again for completion! Heck, I can even be 50 again, right? Why not -- you know, to make up for losing two years this year?? Seems the 50's have been off to quite a rousing good start!!! :o)

Christmas Card 2009 Nostalgic Christmas

Remembering you all fondly at Christmastime, extending special thanks to all those devotees who follow my work including fellow artists to whom I wish an abundance of creative spirit, and to all my dedicated clients and patrons who help support my artistic efforts so that I may continue creating beautiful paintings that pay homage to our worldly gifts of Nature. Blessings to you all this holiday season!

After several decades of collecting century old sterling silver flatware, I’ve amassed a diverse collection which will only now begin to emerge in an expansive series of paintings begun over two years ago. Reflected here is a studio window adjacent to my easel where I painted this teaspoon from the “Seven Flowers” pattern; presented here is the Wild Rose.

Puzzlement . . . Soliciting a little critique from you!
Like many artists, occasionally I'll put a painting out there for sale and it just sits . . . so I'll re-evaluate and possibly rework the painting but it may sit again . . . and I ponder why. Therefore, I'm asking if you'd kindly provide me with a little feedback on this one and let me know why it hasn't yet sold. I've painted numerous similar subjects in 6x6 for twice the price and they've sold like hotcakes. While my fellow artists have said this Little Gem should be priced at $250, I have it at $125. Would love to hear from you with a little guidance and suggestion. Sometimes artists don't quite see straight when it comes to our own work, and sometimes the painting is just simply waiting for the right buyer!

Your thoughts??

A sneak peak of paintings coming in December . . .

As I tippy-toed around my studio, I realized it might be fun for you to see my multi-tasking efforts. With so many paintings in progress at any given moment it can sometimes become rather intense, particularly when added to these piles are several more including much larger commissioned paintings. Displayed here are just SOME of my Little Gems paintings that are underway and planned for completion in December. Keep a lookout! . . . and if you see some that peak your interest and wish to purchase in advance or wish to see clearer while still in progress, just let me know!

botanical pink english rose with mourning cloak butterfly

Botanical illustrations and paintings have always been intriguing as they mark a particular point of development within the Natural world. Many botanicals display rare or now extinct species of flora and fauna. While my intention in this particular painting is less scientific and more deliberately a presentation of beauty, it nevertheless offers the same crisp, simple composition so often found in such historical recordings. Here the Mourning Cloak butterfly inspects a deeply cupped English rose touched with dewdrops.
