large classical oil painting fruit flowers butterflies dewdrops The Gift - Voluptuous Fruit & Floral, Bird's Nest, Bronze Statue
30x20 inches / oil on canvas / copyrights J. Illenye This is a blurry image but the only one I have of this large, powerful painting. In reality the pears looked realistic enough to pluck right out of the scene! Wish I had more patience as a photographer.

The person for whom I created this painting loved the style of the Dutch masters and this statue which held particular significance reminding him of his deceased mother. It was the most stressful painting I ever completed, only for the fact that I was rushing through it painting all day and all night for weeks in the hopes that I would complete it before he passed away from lung cancer. Happily, I completed it in time and he loved it...but unfortunately, we lost him...my Uncle Raymond.
Sustenance Daily Offering Fruit Nuts Wine Spiritual Essence

16x20 inches / oil on stretched canvas
I really must get better photos of my larger oil paintings! In reality, the faded velvet cloth is tattered and torn which contrasts beautifully with the smooth, yet bruised fruit.email to purchase jeanneillenye@sbcglobal.net
Here the bare essentials of sustenance with a setting depicting anticipation of the fruit being cut and savored as well as the half empty glass of wine and just two nuts . . . all seemingly treasured as if an altar display on a clean, folded white cloth protecting it from a very frayed and tattered drape of velvet over a primitive bench. My intent was to bring an almost spiritual aspect to this serene yet powerful still life. Suitably framed, this painting would lend a rich air to either a classical or contemporary setting.
Books, New York Times Crosswords, Magnifying Glass, Desk
Commissioned Painting - The client wanted this for her husband on their wedding anniversary and gave me a little background about him as well as fabric swatches and photos of her room for inspiration. The color red was to be included, he loved the NY Times crosswords, his desk was always a mess with papers, their anniversary date, he had a career in economics and more. So, this desk is a mess (although actually my studio desk) with paper clips and dogeared typed pages, a large red book with Economics on the spine, the clients' names woven into the NY Times crosswords, their anniversary date on a sticky note and my phone no. on the other, and my signature signs one of the letters.
Recently this painting has been featured in an illuminating article by Sharon Hart in her fabulous blog, "Artist's Muse". Click to read more about Sharon's insightful commentary on art, politics, philosophy and musings. http://sharonahart.blogspot.com/2008/09/booker-dobell-and-ultimate-prize.html

Ohhh...if only I had taken a photo of this painting after I'd finished it!!!
Those Bluebirds really were exquisite in person and felt as if I could reach into the painting and quietly take hold of one -- almost feeling their wings fluttering in my loosely clasped hand.

Another commissioned painting --Here the client pointed to a number of my other paintings, small and large, and asked for elements from each including blue & white porcelain and pink roses. The bluebirds of happiness were symbolic of their lives together in their new home.

Little Wooden Soldier Boy Vintage Toy
6x6 inches / oil on panel
From the chubby wooden wheels, to the straw tail, to the silky fur trimmed hat, this little soldier boy was an absolute joy to paint. I hope you like him, too!
Creamy, Butter Yellow, Soft Roses in a Jar
Trio of Red Queen Anne Cherries
Believe it or not, the cherries here were easier to paint than the background! I vacillated between darker versus lighter . . . and exactly what hue. Then I resisted the temptation to bring the background color right down to the subjects creating stark contrasts, and opted for the more realistic approach uniting the them with the wall via the use of shadows. It required over half a dozen glazes to achieve the precise hue and subtle shadings but I’m finally happy with the beautiful foil it made for this very deserving, brilliant trio of cherries. So you see, it’s not just a cherry painting . . . the cherries were the easy part!
