This painting is dedicated to my husband. Since we left New Jersey he’s felt very deprived as he can no longer pop over the river to Shea Stadium and watch his home team play! Yes, for all you baseball fans, that would be the New York Mets! While I am presenting a subject painted by several other artists this season, I thought I’d put a little “spin” on it (no pun intended) and place it in a classical setting as I typically do with my still life arrangements of fruit and flowers.

Thank you, Madison! This was particularly fun to paint! I'd found an old baseball on the lawn and decided it would make a great subject!

The sepia tones in this piece take you back to the golden days of baseball. There's such a lovely sense of history here. I've been begging my hubby to take me to a game this summer. I want the $20 beer, the stale peanuts and the ever-necessary hot dog with LOTS of mustard. Then I want to sit back in my chair and be entertained by the game and the spectators for a few hours. (sigh) Seeing your painting makes that wish all the more urgent for me.

Great Great job!

Jelaine, thank you so much for appreciating the nostalgic atmosphere of this painting. Initially, it was a white ball on a black background, but when photographing the painting in progress, the image was more sepia toned which I liked so completed the painting in that nostalgic theme synonymous with the Golden Days of Baseball! Hope your hubby takes you out to the ball game soon! Have a foot long hot dog for me, too! :)
