This tiny little bird’s nest is actually painted life size, the subject being one which we had rescued from the ravages of Winter. For this painting however, I chose to add several eggs to symbolize the rebirth of Spring as it abounds just outside my studio windows; perhaps even the former occupants are contributing to the chorus I hear now. Having included birds and bird’s nests in many of my larger paintings, I chose to focus all my attention on this delicate little gem with its particular abundance of fluff. One cannot look at these tiny creations without marveling at their structure and pondering how we humans are not the only artists roaming this earth.

Just Lovely. nicely handled
This painting stopped me in my tracks. Beautiful! Wonderfully captured!
Thank you so much for everyone's wonderful comments, most of which came to me via email but I thought I'd use this forum to extend my thanks! This is such a charming little nest; it was a joy to paint it -- glad to hear how you all liked my rendition!
I love the painting with the black for the background. It created a real gentleness and softness to the feathers in the nest. Such a pleasant painting.
Thank you very much for your insightful comments, Crystal! Originally I'd intended an entirely different palette with this painting but darkened it and changed the lighting for more drama. Thank you!
