double hollyhocks in tin can with nest full of eggs
18x14 inches / oil on canvas
Dramatic contrasts enliven these double ruffled hollyhocks in shades of creamy white and pungent pink. Insect eaten leaves and a twig nest full of five tiny brown spotted eggs alongside the tin can complete the composition.
peach hollyhocks in chinese jar, peeling wallpaper, bird, antique books
Rich and elegant, this stately arrangement of old fashioned peach hollyhocks stands tall in a Chinese porcelain jar with shimmering goldleaf. Enhanced by a backdrop of peeling wallpaper, antique books and a Goldfinch figurine this composition becomes a visual tapestry. My objective here was not only to use a lighter, cooler backdrop but also to show all aspects of age within the floral subject, from bud to blossom to seed pod. See my artist statement to further understand my purpose. Again, my impatience with the camera and lighting is evident so I now see that all my labor intensive detailing such as the veins and creases in the tender petals, is lost in this particular image. If you require more detailed zoom images just let me know and I'll oblige your request. Email: jeanneillenye@sbcglobal.net
