soul and purpose

"Through my paintings I hope to communicate a personal enthusiasm and respect for the natural world, thus encourage in others an active stewardship of same." -- JEANNE ILLENYE

Exuberance (detail)

SOLD
It's always an honor for me when my fellow artists, critics and clients post one or more of my paintings on their websites and blogs. In this case, one of my clients who had purchased numerous paintings also commissioned this larger, elaborate still life which incorporates many flora and fauna from her resident state of California as well as a childhood favorite, peonies. Kimberly has posted a lovely review of this painting on her new blog, which I encourage you to browse for some diverse reading on topics related to home restoration, organic farming and vineyards, collecting cars, books, porcelains and original fine art. Enjoy!

hollyhocks classical oil painting country style flowers Cottage Blooms: country hollyhocks in a coffee can with nest, bird figurine, watermelon, books

"Cottage Blooms"
18x14 inches / oil on canvas
NFS

I always love the more casual floral arrangements that retain a sense of the garden even when brought indoors. An old coffee can serves to maintain that rustic atmosphere. This composition seems to behold the very breath of Summertime and the essence of a country cottage garden, hence the title.

classical oil painting flowers in a glass roses, lilies, cherries, Red Admiral butterfly

10x8 inches / oil on canvas panel
SOLD
Rich tones and low lighting enhance this charming nosegay which recalls smaller works by the Dutch Masters. Browning leaves and a Red Admiral butterfly communicate the essence of age as life passes through time.
