soul and purpose

"Through my paintings I hope to communicate a personal enthusiasm and respect for the natural world, thus encourage in others an active stewardship of same." -- JEANNE ILLENYE

classical oil painting flowers in a glass roses, lilies, cherries, Red Admiral butterfly

Rich tones and low lighting enhance this charming nosegay which recalls smaller works by the Dutch Masters. Browning leaves and a Red Admiral butterfly communicate the essence of age as life passes through time.

Thank you so much, Gary! Deeply cupped antique roses and misty glass jars are favorite subjects of mine which are enhanced by the deep earth tones and dramatic lighting that we attribute to old world ambience. Here I injected a little vibrancy with the white lilies and an added touch of interest from the delicate butterfly. Your delightful comments are much appreciated! Jeanne
