Jeanne, You really captured the dryness of these aging lemons. I love the light and especially the reflection of the lemon on the underside of the bowl. Very nice.

Thank you so much, Mark! I'd planned to paint freshly cut lemons, but with juggling so many ptgs at once, my lemons were dry by the time I got back to complete this...and I rather liked the effect. Thanks for your comment. Jeanne

Beautifully done! I really like the sense of lighting ... also love your botanical paintings!

Thank you, Helen, for your lovely compliments! The lighting on this is actually a bit more dramatic in reality (photographing wet paintings under artificial light is tough). My favorite aspect of the lighting is the interplay of reflections to/from the porcelain and lemons within the bowl on the right and the exterior of the bowl. I also appreciate your comments on my florals! Jeanne

I liked the crack in the bowl - it really added interest to a classic subject

Thank you so much! The effect of time on a subject is fascinating to me, and introduces another dimension that is not often seen in still lifes today. Everyone seems to like everything new...but I've been told that I'm an old soul, and that seems to make sense as I've always been attracted to anything showing age. Here the thought is that things don't have to be perfect to be beautiful...value is determined by beauty and treasures are preserved even if a little worn. Jeanne
