Miniature Floral with Blue Morning Glories in Celadon Vase

4x4 inches / oil on panel
Captured in the low angled light of late afternoon sun, this floral arrangement in a celadon vase becomes more dramatic with shadows cast behind it.

Jeanne,
No sports metaphors this time, just praise. This object, nay this icon, is painted with pure love. I might have been able to lay it down convincingly and even paint in a few scuff marks, but there is something more in this. The handling of light and shadow give it an astral feel, like a planet in some lost galaxy, its surface marred from untold meteors and asteroids. The chiaroscuro treatment, the blurring of the back edge of the ball at left and the subtle softness at the top and bottom edge, the stitches...all perfection!
