"Through my paintings I hope to communicate a personal enthusiasm and respect for the natural world, thus encourage in others an active stewardship of same." -- JEANNE ILLENYE

HUMMINGBIRD'S TINY NEST

SOLD

Copyrights reserved by Jeanne Illenye 2007
Only about two inches in diameter, this hummingbird’s nest, painted lifesize, sits securely on a single branch. Nests in general are fascinating, however, a hummingbird’s nest seems to be almost miraculous knowing how tiny these birds are. Here can be seen mother’s teal feathers amongst torn dried leaves and what appear to be fine hairs and grasses. How they raise a brood on the tip of a leaf in the garden or on a single little branch as was done here, is quite remarkable to contemplate.

SOLD
14x18 inches
Branches of soft, fuzzy peaches are set atop a rustic farmhouse table. The sweet scent of the fruit attracts insects from a nearby open window. This is a serene, muted painting which would be enhanced by a simple frame with linen liner or for a more dramatic effect, a goldleaf frame for an old world appearance. (Please excuse the glare.)

5x7 inches
SOLD
This is a treasured celadon jar which was a gift from my Mother who has a flair for incorporating Oriental accents in designing interiors. Here I’ve set it on a rich cloth with an open arrangement of melons and other fruit.

TRIO OF FRUIT ON A CRATE (SOLD)

4x5 inches
SOLD
This is a favorite subject to paint — apples, pears and rustic elements such as crates, boxes and buckets. In this presentation of the subject, I’ve utilized a low horizon line to create a sense of drama. This painting is a nice mate to "Apples on a Vintage Box".

4x5 inches
SOLD
Peeling paper lends character to a vintage box which is the foundational design element of this painting. A branch of ripening apples is set atop with low shadows adding dimension to the subject.

FLORAL BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN VASE JAR WITH OPEN BOOK (SOLD)

SOLD
5x4 inches oil on canvas panel
A classical style still life inspired by the Dutch masters in terms of form, mood and subject matter. This is a small study similar to many of my very large, highly realistic and elaborate still life paintings.

Handful of Queen Anne Cherries (SOLD)

SOLD
2.5x2.5 inches oil on canvas panel

This is not the smallest painting I’ve ever done, but certainly close to it! Here I present just a handful of brilliant red Queen Anne cherries which would look incredible in an oversized goldleaf frame!

PINK HYDRANGEAS (SOLD)

SOLD
5x7 inches oil on canvas panel
There’s no mistaking that my main interest in this subject was the leaves, hence the unique orientation of the hydrangeas in this painting. Those leaves felt tender yet crisp at the base of their stalks . . . and the cool, smooth new growth borne from those wonderful woody stems, cut roughly, revealing the life within.

SOLD
5x7 inches
Reminiscent of so many American still lifes from the early 20th Century, this composition is forthright in it’s presentation. I always enjoy painting the more rustic subjects which look absolutely fabulous in an oversized ornate goldleaf frame.
