soul and purpose

"Through my paintings I hope to communicate a personal enthusiasm and respect for the natural world, thus encourage in others an active stewardship of same." -- JEANNE ILLENYE

botanical pink english rose with mourning cloak butterfly

Botanical illustrations and paintings have always been intriguing as they mark a particular point of development within the Natural world. Many botanicals display rare or now extinct species of flora and fauna. While my intention in this particular painting is less scientific and more deliberately a presentation of beauty, it nevertheless offers the same crisp, simple composition so often found in such historical recordings. Here the Mourning Cloak butterfly inspects a deeply cupped English rose touched with dewdrops.

Thank you so much, M. There's a simplicity about botanicals that is so appealing. Jeanne
