It was a landscape of a farm we visited in NY state and I still have the painting! My first still life was a contemporized floral in watercolor. My gravitation to oils was immediate as I utterly adored the buttery, creamy mixing of colors (hence I only use primaries plus white to this day). My mother still has that first miniature floral which surprisingly was rather good (better eyes back then as a young teen). Sometimes people know immediately what they want to do, and I was fortunate enough to have that knowledge. However, it took another few decades to finally have the opportunity to paint full time, for which I am eternally grateful. As they say, "Practice makes perfect," and I'm still working on it!! My smallest floral still life oil painting was 1x1.5 inches. Here the hollyhocks were irresistible and a pleasant diversion from the usual roses.
