WORK IN PROGRESS
(First sitting 5 hrs.)
Outside the Box
5x5 inches / oil on panel
SOLD - final image forthcoming

Today is the Daily Painters theme entitled "Outside the Box" which is supposed to be interpreted as painting something outside one's routine. So, I have not only fulfilled that (albeit a still life) with a much more contemporary subject which is also more vibrant than usual for me, but have also suited my own fancy by painting a delightfully colorful box of crayons with a pretty carnation pink one standing outside the box. It's hard to imagine, but at age 51 I finally got my very first BIG BOX of 64 Crayons!!! Can you believe it? Well, as long as my days are in my studio (12 - 16 hrs.) I still have too little time to get everything done! I was only able to dedicate about 5 hours to this little painting, but hope to get it completed and listed on ebay in the next couple of weeks, as time permits.

honeybee & rose - detail of "Queen of the Night Tulips" painting

SOLD
Detail of "Queen of the Night Tulips" which is shown in the following post. As the resolution is always compromised, the full image does not even reveal both honeybees, so I chose to show you at least one with glistening wings and pollen on the hind legs.

queen of the night black deep purple tulips, white peonies, creamware vase, rose, bees

20x16 inches / oil on canvas
SOLD
These "Queen of the Night" tulips with their beautiful sheen, provide an interesting interplay of contrasts against the white peonies, creamware vase and linen cloth, as they almost recede into the background where they play a supporting role. Completing the classical flow of the composition is a thorny rose. Two honeybees, wings glistening and hind legs full of orange pollen, are the finishing touches to this Spring arrangement.
Postscript
Thought I'd share this charming little tidbit with you. My lovely client received her painting and in the excitement of opening her package anxiously swatted the air to shoo away a bee. Alas, she then realized it was actually part of the painting! Who could ask for a more delightful compliment?

oranges in wedgewood blue bowl, oriental rug

16x20 inches / oil on canvas
SOLD
This is a rich, serene painting with a strong presence, partially due to the fact that the subjects are lifesized and the fruit is aged and natural in color rather than being overly "orange".

fresh cut pink peonies garden floral still life

8 x 10 inches / oil on canvas panel
SOLD
Reminiscent of seasons past, this handful of freshly cut peonies gives promise that Spring will soon be upon us!

antique sterling silver spoons

4x4 inches / oil on panel / image larger than actual painting
SOLD
Today we're all posting a theme on "Reflections.
For over 100 years these sterling silver teaspoons have been acquiring their rich patina. Shown here are several patterns, among which are "Lily" and "Orange Blossom". Reflected in the spoons of course is me holding my camera as well as my large oil painting, "Farmstand Peaches," which resides over a pine farmhouse table in my studio.
